What is measured

For every SKU we track across retailers:

  • Current retail price (in U.S. cents)
  • MSRP / crossed-out original price where published by the retailer
  • In-stock / out-of-stock availability
  • Retailer-published product specifications: wrapper, binder, filler, country of origin, strength, length, ring gauge, shape, quantity/pack size
  • Active coupon codes and affiliate promotional offers
  • Retailer-published ratings and review counts (where available)
  • Cross-retailer market low and median price per cigar over time (per line and market-wide, aggregates only)

Data collection method

Prices are indexed directly from the retailer product detail pages by automated scrapers operated by CigarFinder. Each retailer is crawled on a rolling schedule so the full catalog refreshes daily. CigarFinder is an affiliate partner of the indexed retailers; our partnerships give us reliable URL catalogs and typically a long fixed-IP allowlist. We do not accept paid placement that changes the pricing data: the number we show is the number a customer sees at checkout.

Indexed retailers

Retailers currently in the dataset include Best Cigar Prices, BnB Tobacco, Casa de Montecristo, CigarPage, Cigars International, Cigars N Cigars, Cigars.com, Cigora, Famous Smoke Shop, Flying Cigars, Gotham Cigars, I Heart Cigars, JR Cigar, Smoke Inn, and Thompson Cigar. The exact list rotates as retailers join or leave the affiliate program. Market price history additionally draws on our CigarInsight retail platform, which monitors 83 U.S. online cigar retailers as anonymous aggregates (no per-retailer prices are published from that set).

How to access the dataset

Four ways to get the data:

1. CigarFinder website: every SKU has a public product page at https://cigarfinder.com/product/{id} with current retailer prices, Product + Offer JSON-LD, and aggregateRating where available. Every brand has a hub at /brands/{slug}, and market price-history charts live on the per-line price comparison pages.

2. Sample CSV: download a 100-row sample of live rows (product, price, retailer) to evaluate the shape of the data before requesting more.

3. Model Context Protocol (MCP) server: our MCP server at mcp.cigarfinder.com exposes tools for price lookup, brand queries, and lounge searches to any MCP-compatible AI client (Claude Desktop, VS Code with MCP support, etc.). This is the easiest way for agents and LLMs to integrate live cigar pricing. AI crawlers can also read our llms.txt.

4. Research and press inquiries: for bulk data access, historical trend analysis, or press embed partnerships, email admin@cigarfinder.com with your intended use and we'll scope an agreement.

Why this dataset matters

The premium cigar retail market has long been opaque about pricing. Manufacturer MSRP, actual online street prices, and coupon-adjusted prices routinely differ by 20-40% on the same SKU. By aggregating all partner retailers into one comparable index and refreshing daily, CigarFinder produces the first unified longitudinal picture of what cigars actually cost in the United States online market. Editorial coverage, press pieces, and academic analysis are encouraged.
