Caldwell’s original collection of cigars is known for using only A-grade tobacco, and for utilizing rare varietals. The King is Dead is no exception. There are two leaves that make this cigar special. First up is HVA 20/20, a Cuban-hybrid tobacco developed in the Dominican. The King is Dead also has a special Dominican varietal called Negrito. Shade-grown and difficult to master, Negrito is a unique find with tons of flavor.The King is Dead begins with its signature Dominican Negrito wrapper leaf. Underneath you’ll find a Corojo binder and a combination of Dominican fillers (including the HVA 20/20). This recipe produces a blend that’s deep in complexity. You’ll find a thick, maple syrup-like sweetness and earth in the beginning, before a chocolate and cream combination takes over about halfway through.
