Released in 2016 amidst increasing government regulations on premium cigars, RoMa Craft Intemperance Whiskey Rebellion 1794 cigars pay homage to another moment in history when government intervention targeted a luxury productwhiskey. The Whiskey Rebellion was a pivotal conflict between the U.S. government and whiskey distillers in western Pennsylvania. To offset debts from the Revolutionary War, the government imposed the first-ever domestic tax on whiskey production. Smaller distillers, disproportionately affected by the tax, viewed it as an unjust burden on their livelihoods.Federal marshals sent to collect the tax often faced outright defiance, with distillers refusing payment and using intimidation to drive them away. Tensions escalated when a tax inspector summoned distillers to court, only to be met by an enraged crowd of 500 at his home. The situation became so volatile that President George Washington, accompanied by 13,000 militiamen, was forced to intervene. Although the rebellion was subdued, the government struggled to enforce the tax until its repeal by Thomas Jefferson in 1803.Inspired by the spirit of resistance, RoMa Craft Intemperance Whiskey Rebellion 1794 cigars embody defiance through an expertly curated blend.
