Opus X — officially Fuente Fuente OpusX — is the crown jewel of the Arturo Fuente portfolio and one of the most legendary cigars ever produced. Created by Carlos "Carlito" Fuente Jr. in 1992, Opus X proved that world-class wrapper leaf could be grown in the Dominican Republic, shattering a long-held industry belief. Made entirely with Dominican tobacco from Fuente's Chateau de la Fuente farm, Opus X routinely earns 95+ ratings and commands some of the highest prices in the premium cigar market. CigarFinder compares Opus X prices across 17+ trusted retailers.
The OpusX story is one of the cigar industry's greatest achievements. For decades, conventional wisdom held that the Dominican Republic could not produce quality cigar wrapper leaf — the thin, delicate outer layer that contributes significantly to a cigar's appearance and flavor. Carlito Fuente refused to accept this limitation.
Working on his family's Chateau de la Fuente farm in the Dominican Republic, Carlito spent years experimenting with wrapper tobacco cultivation. By 1992, he had succeeded in growing a Dominican wrapper of exceptional quality — a sun-grown Rosado leaf that was rich, flavorful, and beautiful. The Fuente Fuente OpusX was born: a 100% Dominican puro that stunned critics and collectors alike.
Today, Opus X encompasses a range of rare releases. The Lost City uses tobaccos from a special section of the Fuente farm. Forbidden X features dark, aged tobaccos. Angel's Share uses tobaccos that have been aged so long they've developed a natural crystallization. The Opus X Perfecxion vitolas (No. 2, No. 4, No. 5) are the most commonly found formats. Limited releases like the BBMF and Don Arturo are among the rarest cigars in the world.
