Arturo Fuente is one of the oldest and most revered cigar families in the world, producing handcrafted Dominican cigars since 1912. Now in its fourth generation under Carlos "Carlito" Fuente Jr., the brand is synonymous with meticulous craftsmanship and legendary blends like the Fuente Fuente OpusX — the cigar that proved world-class wrapper leaf could be grown outside of Cuba. With hundreds of products spanning every price point, Fuente delivers excellence from the everyday Gran Reserva to the ultra-rare Forbidden X. CigarFinder compares Arturo Fuente prices across 17+ trusted retailers.
The Fuente story begins in 1912 when Arturo Fuente, a Cuban immigrant, started rolling cigars in West Tampa, Florida. The family endured devastating setbacks — fires destroyed their factories in 1924 and again in 1977 — but each time they rebuilt stronger. Carlos Fuente Sr. moved production to the Dominican Republic in 1980, establishing Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia in Santiago.
The game-changer came in 1992 when Carlos "Carlito" Fuente Jr. released the Fuente Fuente OpusX, made entirely with Dominican tobacco including a Dominican-grown wrapper — something the industry had considered impossible. The OpusX became an instant legend, routinely earning 95+ ratings and commanding premium prices on the secondary market.
Today, Arturo Fuente produces an extraordinary range. The Hemingway series features distinctive perfecto shapes named after literary works. The Don Carlos line offers rich, complex smokes with aged Dominican filler and a Cameroon wrapper. The Gran Reserva and 8-5-8 lines provide accessible entry points with the same Fuente quality. The Anejo, aged in cognac barrels, and the OpusX Lost City are among the most sought-after limited releases in the world.

Arturo Fuente has over 110 years of family cigar-making tradition. They grow their own tobacco on Dominican farms, age it extensively, and maintain some of the strictest quality standards in the industry. The OpusX proved that world-class wrapper leaf could be grown in the Dominican Republic — a landmark achievement.
The OpusX is Fuente's ultra-premium line made entirely with Dominican tobacco including a rare Dominican wrapper, typically priced at $15-30+ per cigar. The Don Carlos uses aged Dominican filler with a Cameroon wrapper, offering a rich, complex smoke at a more accessible $8-15 per cigar. Both are exceptional.
The Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva or Chateau Fuente in Natural wrapper are excellent starting points — smooth, medium-bodied, and very affordable at $4-7 per cigar. The Hemingway Short Story is another popular choice with its distinctive perfecto shape and approachable flavor.
OpusX cigars use extremely rare Dominican-grown wrapper tobacco from Fuente's Chateau de la Fuente farm. Production is limited, demand far exceeds supply, and each cigar is aged extensively before release. This scarcity drives both retail prices and secondary market premiums.
The Hemingway Short Story is one of Fuente's most iconic cigars — a small perfecto shape (about 4 inches) with a Cameroon wrapper that delivers a rich, flavorful 30-minute smoke. Named after Ernest Hemingway's literary works, it is one of the best-selling premium short smokes in the industry.
