About Hoyo De Monterrey Cigars
The original Hoyo de Monterrey was established in 1865 by José Gener in the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba. "Hoyo" means "hole" or "valley" in Spanish, referring to the low-lying valley where Gener grew his prized tobacco. The brand became one of Cuba's most respected names.
After the Cuban Revolution, the non-Cuban Hoyo de Monterrey brand was established in Honduras by Villazon (later acquired by General Cigar). The Honduran line has built its own identity, particularly through the Excalibur sub-brand. A smooth, well-constructed cigar that has become one of the best-selling Honduran cigars in America.
The Hoyo de Monterrey Governors and Epicure are classic vitolas in the original Hoyo line. Mild-to-medium Honduran blends with Connecticut Shade wrappers. The Dark Sumatra introduced a bolder option with a rich Sumatran wrapper. Excalibur ranges from the mild Connecticut-wrapped original to the darker, more complex Excalibur Dark Knight and Excalibur Black.
