The Liga Privada story is cigar industry legend. Jonathan Drew, founder of Drew Estate, worked with master blender Willy Herrera to create a personal smoke using the finest tobaccos in Drew Estate's reserves. The blend featured a rare Connecticut Broadleaf Stalk Cut wrapper — tobacco harvested by cutting the entire stalk rather than individual leaves, producing thicker, more flavorful wrapper leaf.
When friends and industry insiders tried Drew's personal blend, the demand was so overwhelming that Drew Estate released it commercially as Liga Privada No. 9 — named because it was the ninth attempt to perfect the blend.
